Serving Children with Grace and Skill

9:00 – 9:10 Welcome

9:10 – 9:30 Opening Devotions by Art Tjoelker from LCS

(opening devotional on the topic of “grace” as it relates to teaching and in the context of special educational needs.  He will also talk about the changes in education over his 40+ year career within that context. He believe because of the emphasis of high expectations for performance especially now within our culture, that is all the more reason to extend grace to students, parents, teachers (all of us). (reality is that kids are messy and muddy . . .   leave here today with skills, strategies, resources, boundaries all bathed in grace)

9:30 – 11:00 panel each tells a particular story (about 7 minutes each)

  A parent’s point of view – Tim Krell   

 Working with severely disable students in the classroom – Dorothy Van Ness  

Strategies for positive differentiation and in depth learning – Evelyn Seymour   

  What prevents kids from flourishing – Ben DeRegt - LCS

11:00 – 11:45 – Leanne Van Hulzen – transitioning kids into the traditional classroom; accommodating needs through pullouts and inclusion; what to do when you suspect a learning issue; proper documentation when you suspect a learning issue?   Other ideas . . .

1 1:45 – 12:30   Joanne Den Boer (SCSBC) introducing the resource they have developed – Serving All Children Well: educational support services in Christian schools

12:30 – 1:30 lunch while meeting in school groups

1:30 – 2:00 final reflections and wrap up
